How is coaching different from therapy or counseling?

A coach is not there to analyze you or your past.  In coaching we believe that you are not broken and you are not in need of repair. You are a naturally creative, resourceful and whole individual that simply needs a small nudge to get to where you want to go. Coaching is about taking actions in your life, therapy is about mental health.

Expatriate Coaching offers the client a level of support and championing that may not be available in the expat’s country of residence. Since expatriate coaching is most often done over the phone, the coach-client relationship can benefit the client even if the expat coach lives on the other side of the world.

How is coaching different from having a friend to talk to?

We all have friends that can be there for us. However, in this fast-paced world it sometimes becomes too much to ask of our friends to be there on a consistent, week-to-week basis — especially if, as expatriates, we live on a completely different continent from them now! The advantage of an expat coaching relationship is that it happens regularly continuing for as long as you need it. Your coach is a trained professional educated to listen, communicate and use intuition to your advantage. The focus is completely on you and there is no other relationship in our lives that consistently offers this extraordinary level of support and encouragement.
